A grease trap is a box placed near a commercial kitchen sink. The unit is installed to filter removing the FOGs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When is a Grease Trap required&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A grease trap is required at all sites that prepare hot food for the public or staff. Building regulations states all new builds and refurbishments of hot food premises must have an effective grease management system&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When is a Grease Trap cleaned and how?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is advisable a grease trap is cleaned at least quarterly (every 3 months) but of course must be maintained at all times to ensure correct efficient working&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Allowing FOGs down into the drain system cause problems?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Water Industry Act 1991 requires that premises do not discharge products into the drainage system which could inhibit drain operation. The responsibility lies with the owner\/user of the food operation establishment.
